Anxiety – Alleviate Symptoms the Natural Way
Anxiety is a debilitating ailment that many people suffer from in today’s society. Unfortunately it is on the increase as pressure builds up from our daily life in these modern times. Everyone experiences some form of anxiety at some point in their lives. All is not equal and there are many people that continue to suffer on a daily basis, while others only get a mild dose every now and again.
If you have ever suffered from anxiety on a regular basis, then you will know just how mentally crippling it can be. For those of you that live with sufferers, you will need to be patient and understanding. It is not something that can be simply snapped out of.
Anxiety is a real condition and can have devastating consequences for the sufferer. Sufferers of Anxiety are not simply “weak minded” as it is labeled by some folk. There are many products that claim to reduce the symptoms. A visit to the doctor will no doubt have you leaving with a prescription of pharmaceutical medications, which are over prescribed these days. Many people that suffer from anxiety do not need such strong medications as there are much more gentle ways to reduce your anxiety, provided it is not severe.
Anxiety levels can fluctuate from mild uneasiness to major panic attacks and for those that suffer worse conditions than others, then perhaps stronger medication may be needed until you have your condition under control. Like depression, anxiety is a mental disease and it can be controlled and in some cases even cured. There are many triggers for anxiety and once these are removed or resolved from one’s life, the condition can become remarkably reduced or even removed.
So what are the triggers of Anxiety?
Fears are usually to blame for anxiety attacks. It can be a fear of anything. Phobia’s such as fear of heights, or crowds, small spaces. Anything you can think of, you can have a fear of. Fears are irrational thoughts in the brain. If you allow these fears to consume you, you will have feelings of anxiety. The fear first starts from an experience. For some if may be from something major such as a vehicle accident and for others something quite small can trigger feelings or fear, such as simply being late for a meeting. Doing certain things can strike fear into people, driving a car for example, or being in wide open spaces or small confined spaces.
Even though some of these situations can cause anxiety to some and may seem trivial to others, this does not mean that they are not justified. If we could wipe out some experiences in life, then none of us would suffer from anxiety. However it is the brains way of keeping us safe. Starting a new job can cause anxiety, due to the fact that you are out of your comfort zone, in fact anything that takes you out of your comfort zone can be a trigger for anxiety. Some people thrive in these situations and others are crippled.
Worrying incessantly about things that may occur is enough to trigger anxiety. Worrying about money, health, your family and a myriad of other things is something that concern a lot of people these days. The financial crisis of the last few years has not helped the cause either. Many people have been left homeless and penniless due to the greed of other people, and this is a major cause of anxiety and depression. It is hard to avoid feelings of anxiety in such circumstances.
So how do you know if you suffer from anxiety?
Many physical symptoms may appear. Often you will have feelings of fear, your heart will pound, and you will have butterflies in your stomach often accompanied by a feeling of nausea, depending on how fearful you are feeling. Sweating as your temperature rises due to your heart rate rising, nausea and pain in the form of a headache, stomach ache any sort of ache. Often people do vomit or have to go the bathroom. Stage fright is a prime example of anxiety. Often it is heard of major artists still vomiting before they perform on stage.
Other symptoms of anxiety are
- Poor sleep
- Mental fatigue
- Reduced attention span
- Feelings of stress
- Feeling jittery and unable to relax
Unfortunately, people often reach for addictive substances when they are feeling anxious. Alcohol is a relaxant and is fine in moderation, however it is easily over consumed. This then leads to other alcohol related problems, which instead of helping the situation, fuels the anxiety. Cigarette smoking is another trait of the anxiety sufferer. Often people think that having a cigarette is calming when in fact the opposite is true. Cigarettes may give you a lift whilst you are smoking, however they rob your body of vital nutrients and oxygen, thus stressing it further – the result, you need another one to calm the constant stress you put your body though.
